There's no Pride like Gay Pride: Babies on Fire (Island!)
By Lippy Staff Writer
There's no pride like Gay Pride. Unless you have been living under a rock (star,) you have heard of the band Depeche Mode. In the August issue of Interview magazine, front man Dave Gahan admits to actress Chloe Sevigny, star of the HBO series, "Big Love," that Depeche Mode fans are typically the "outcasts" of society, affectionately referred to as "The Black Swarm." This week The Black Swarm host an "of-fysche-al" party in honor of Depeche Mode arriving in America for this leg of their "Sounds of the Universe" tour. The week long "Black Celebration" was last week on Fire Island, the gay sandbar off New York. Billed as "of-fysche-al" as it is co hosted by the artist formerly known as Fysche, aka Veronica Grey, rumored inspiration of songwriter Martin Gore. Incidentally, "Big Love" is a show about an alternative love lifestyle. Specifically in "The Pines" of Fire Island, the party is helmed by renowned sculptor Spang, impresario Jarrod Serafine who hosts a monthly underwear party in Brooklyn at Sugarland, and international development advisor Victor Cornelius, whose circle includes the Rockefellers and the Vanderbilts. Whether or not any of the Rockefellers or the Vanderbilts have gay pride remains to be seen; Spang prefers the term, "ambivalent" to describe their orientation. Regardless, showing Pride for Depeche Mode, must, as MGMT sings, "run its course" as the soirée relocated to the Waldorf this past weekend for the All Points West Festival, where provocateur Veronica Grey's picks include Janeane Garofalo (because they are both friends of Garry Shandling,) Bo Burnham (is his song "3.14 Apple Pi" in reference to Veronica's birthday?), The Honey Brothers (Adrian Grenier is part of the HB0 family as the lead of "Entourage,") Echo and the Bunnymen, Jay Z who intends to collaborate with co-performers MGMT, and headliners Coldplay. Incidentally, check out the link below to see Jay Z's seeming "shout out to fysche." Anyone else looking for great music should visit http://www.lineoftheday.com. No it is not a drug reference, but Mike Schwab's website, who may soon be collaborating with uber-producer Bob Cutarella, multiple Grammy winner for "Les Paul and Friends." Brooklyn appears to be the new Seattle of this millenium, spawning hipster rockstars, like Mike Schwab; Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser of MGMT. Depeche Mode performs at Madison Square Garden Monday August 3 and Tuesday August 4. It is a busy week for Veronica Grey who divides her muse duties when MGMT open up for Paul McCartney in Boston on August 5 and August 6. Perhaps she can tell us why Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT is barefoot these days: (see link below.) Maybe this is the reason Martin Gore fondly refers to Veronica Grey as "Jezebel." |
Why is Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT barefoot?
| Is Jay Z really shouting out to fysche?

Why is Martin Gore of Depeche Mode rockin' a Black V on his outfit?
